The Tight Gas Crunch!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Gas prices are still rising and it is devastating to some people. A lot of people are really feeling the effects of the rising costs, especially those that must drive everywhere to make their living.  As an employer, what can we do to help our employees offset the cost of fuel?  We have thought long and hard about this.  Unfortunately, innovative ideas such as carpooling and ride-sharing are not really an option for some of our employees due to the nature of their job.  So what else…  On average, sales reps drive 3 to 4 more times than the average person. At Evans Glass, Inc. our employees drive, on average 100 miles a day, 6 days a week.  That’s a lot of fuel at 4 bucks and some change per gallon.  We decided to have a run a monthly contest (Spiff) for our sales team hoping it will inspire sales and help them afford to keep fuel in the vehicles.  The spiff works out to equal right around 1 month worth of gas, 500 dollars.  So essentially, we are paying their gas for a month.  How cool is that.!! Not many employers have done anything to help their employees get to work, work, and get back home.  Evans Glass is!!! and for an entire 30 days! woohoo! On top of this we are having weekly contests for our sales representatives that if they make a sale on mondays for the month of July we’ll give them a $25 gas card! So we’re giving our employees two ways to win and relieve that tight gas crunch! WOW!

Boss Appreciation Day!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

We are not all business here at Evans Glass; we sure know have to have fun…  We recently enjoyed a morning of good food, good friends and co-workers, and lots of fun.  We titled the day “Boss Appreciation Day”.  This day was not really intended for the type of boss appreciation you would think.   It was actually a day to tank, and thank, your boss; courtesy of a dunk tank. What a day!!!

We set some goals for each employee in every department to reach.  Those employees that reached those goals got a shot at not only their own department manager, but any manager they choose; including the General Manager.  By the end of the day almost every employee had gotten a shot at someone.  All the managers were walking around soaking wet; some forgot to bring a change of clothes, OOOPS!!!

We had a few other things going on that day that included Paul Slingo, manning the cotton candy machine…  It looked easy, until the cotton candy started to fluff up.  Sarah Bromley was popping popcorn, non-stop and Peter Walbrun was doing some serious ice crushing on the sno-cone machine…  We had two BBQ’s going at one time, grilling up chicken and good ol’ fashion hot dogs.  Everything was so good.

We charged a dollar a piece for the sno-cones, popcorn and cotton candy.  We were raising money for a man named Fred Bull, who is related to our Director of Operations, Gary Good.  Fred suffers from a rare type of reoccurring brain tumor that has been diagnosed as a malignant glioneuronal neoplasm, or high grade glial neoplasm.  We raised around 60 dollars.

It was a fun morning and helped to rejuvenate all of our staff.  A happy employee make for happy customers!!!
